Ambassadors Message
Ms. May-Elin Stener - Ambassador
India and Norway enjoy a strong, longstanding relationship in business. Promoting Norwegian businesses and business cooperation is one of the overriding objectives of Norway’s engagement in India.
As of 2023, more than 120 Norwegian companies are established in India. They operate in areas such as the maritime industry, shipping, oil and gas, clean energy, environment and ICT.
The Norwegian Pension Fund Global is the second largest foreign sovereign wealth fund in India. In 2022, the value of its investments in India amounted to USD 16.7 billion. The volume is expected to increase.
The world is now looking at India to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ongoing green transition in India offers Norwegian companies with plenty of opportunities, and I believe the future for Norway-India business is bright. Concluding the EFTA free trade agreement negotiations with India is a priority for the Norwegian government. Within the frame of an India-EFTA agreement, Norway and India can create new opportunities for business cooperation and enhance Norwegian exports from green industries.
The Norwegian Business Association India (NBAI) plays an important role in strengthening partnerships, in sharing knowledge among members, and promoting diversity, inclusion and social responsibility among Norwegian businesses in India. NBAI is part of “Team Norway” together with the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, the Norwegian Consulate General in Mumbai, Innovation Norway and the Norway India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI). Together, “Team Norway” aims to develop business ties between Norway and India.
My best wishes to all members of the NBAI and the Norwegian-Indian business community. I look forward to working together with all of you to support and strengthen Norway-India business ties in the years to come.
