Commercial Counsellor's Message

Mr.  Cristian Rodrigo Valdes Carter Country Director, Innovation Norway
Commercial Counsellor, Royal Norwegian Embassy

Norwegian Business Association India (NBAI) has had the pleasure for Innovation Norway (IN) to sharing offices with the NBAI secretariat since NBAI was established in 2013. We saw a need, and NBAI has proven to be important for a for the Norwegian business community in India and our Team Norway effort. IN highly appreciate the close cooperation we have with NBAI.

India is a ‘continent’ of immense opportunities for Norwegian businesses in many sectors with 29 States and 7 Union Territories. We are witnessing growth both in the traditional industries of oil & gas, maritime but also significantly and more so in new, fast growing areas such as renewable energy, green-tech, power, infrastructure, health, ICT to name a few. In line with today’s globalized business environment, we are also seeing a shift from the traditional hubs of Norwegian businesses in India in the Western coast of the country to the rest of India. These recent developments reflect Norway’s increased focus on innovation and internationalization of homegrown innovative technologies at an early stage as.

India, on its part, is the sixth largest economy in the world, poised to become a US $5 trillion economy by 2022 and aspiring to be a US$10 trillion economy by 2030. The country has jumped 65 positions from 142nd (2014) to 77th (2018) in ‘World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking 2018’. More than 100 Norwegian companies are now present in India in addition to 53 Norwegian companies that are represented through local agents. Norwegian businesses have established a double-digit number of factories in india in several industries like, aluminum, food, fertilizer and paint to mention some. Norway is contributing to “Make in India”!

Innovation Norway, the Commercial Section of the Embassy support Norwegian businesses all over India from our offices in New Delhi and in Mumbai. We play an important role in assisting individual Norwegian companies as well as focused groups of companies and clusters in promoting their business interests in India including through organization of events/exhibitions and business seminars as we did during the visit of Prime Minister Erna Solberg to New Delhi in January 2019. We also work closely with Norwegian and Indian Governments and institutions in facilitating for businesses. In all this effort we are very happy for our cooperation with NBAI and our joint efforts. If you are a Norwegian Business with interests in India and not already a member of NBAI, we encourage you to join the business association and become a part of Team Norway.

India can be a challenging market. Team Norway is here to assist you!
