The Royal Norwegian Consulate General ,Mumbai had along with Directorate General of Shipping of India hosted a seminar on ”. Responsible Shipping for the Future” on 10th October held in Mumbai .
The seminar had NBAI Members as guest speakers on panel as well as attendees ( DNVGL, Kongsberg Digital ,DNB, Herald Maritime, Wallem Shipmanagement (India) Pvt.LTd, Handelsbanken International .
“Shipping is the World Wide Web of logistics” these are the words of Harald Solberg, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (Norges Rederiforbund) at this seminar. He emphasised that shipping is the most energy efficient way of transporting goods. The challenge is to reduce emissions by 70-80 percent by 2050. “Working together across oceans and borders is the only way to reach this ambitious goal” said Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister, Jens Frølich Holte. Amitabh Kumar, Director General of DG Shipping saw an array of areas for Indo-Norwegian collaboration in the maritime sector and was optimistic about the future.
The seminar gathered more than 100 stakeholders from shipping, finance and the maritime industry. Three essential topics had been singled out: Green shipping, Cyber security at sea and the long-term benefits of education and Gender Equality currently hindered by a male-biased work culture. Speakers and moderators from the Norwegian Shipowners´ Association, Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations and the newly established Maritime CEO led a diverse and engaged audience to exchange ideas and inspire new thoughts. If there was a final conclusion, it was the widely held suggestion that “Responsible Shipping for the future” should be a yearly event.
