The Aker Solutions team in Mumbai conducted a workshop on “Instrumentation Engineering in the EPC Industry” for 50 students from the Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology (VESIT). The workshop was part of a long-term initiative to support enriched learning for engineering students.
The students are in the final semester of the instrumentation engineering degree course and the workshop was planned to tie in with their subject “Instrumentation Project Documentation and Execution”. This covers the technical requirements of instrumentation and control system documentation, the procurement lifecycle, design deliverables, software and tools used by instrumentation engineers in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) industry.
The Aker Solutions team worked closely with the VESIT faculty to create a structure for the workshop that would add on to the students’ academic learning and give them an insight into its practical application. This will support a smooth transition when they move from college into the engineering industry.
The workshop correlated technical concepts with practical examples from the EPC industry through a combination of slides, 3D walkthrough videos and photographs of construction sites. The students were also given an overview of the typical project lifecycle from concept finalization to decommissioning and had a hands-on session with documentation from Aker Solutions’ past projects.
The feedback from the students was extremely positive and a number of similar workshops are being planned for the future.
